As if defining grindcore weren’t a confounding enough task, there’s a subset of practitioners such as Spoonful of Vicodin that seem determined to set themselves apart from their peers and colleagues by inventing a micro-genre they can solely inhabit. Is being a humble grind band that bad? Join me on a trip through grind’s far-flung and constantly evolving nomenclature.

I think Catheter might have done some ridiculous genre naming too (not sure at all, though).
We should come up with something awesome for DxAx, Asterisk, Agents of Abhorrence etc. Robmartoncore.
324 is totally Grindcrust, I'm convinced.

zmaj -- omigod, totally forgot cephalic. good catch. and you're indeed correct, catheter did try to call it 303 grind, repping that home area code.
shantera/wet -- i didn't mean any of this to be actual reflection on their sound. it's all just marketing gimmicks at this point. i have no clue what "darkness grind" means, but that's how 324 has described their last couple of albums at least.
ditto the zmaj comment on cephalic. then there's one band that plays exactly violent style; i think i just mentioned who.

I'd never thought of early Kataklysm as being grind, but I can see the connection, I suppose. Either way, "Northern Hyperblast" is a great example of genre gimmickry.
Similar to xmaj's idea, I'm going to start calling anything John Chang is involved with as RAAAAAcore.
i certainly don't immediately think of kataklysm when i think grind, but hey, i can't deny the ridiculous attraction of a name like "northern hyperblast."
i always thought grindcore ninja commando team nicely summed up dxax. dunno how well that would apply to an asterisk* or noisear. i am open to suggestions.
