Grind Part, Slayer Part, Garbage to the End: "Ikaruga"

The Inalienable Dreamless was Discordance Axis' last longplayer, but before the band fizzled for good, the trio graced us with two final songs, eventually released on Our Last Day. This time there were no complex allegories about giant Japanese robots piloted by neurotic teens who fend off alien invasions in between addressing their daddy issues. Instead, we get a lighthearted twofer about gaming, "Ikaruga" and "Sega Bass Fishing." Here's the tab for "Ikaruga;" go get your bullet hell on.

Those songs just make me wish that the band hadn't "fizzled". Their discography is already incredible but it could have been so much more.

everyone always says that. i wish it couldve kept on, it should have been more. my kid does that too. wish i could have stayed longer, wish i couldve had more. one more scoop, five more dollars.

i think an artist knows when to move on. do something else. the listener will never cop to that, they'll always want more. good shit just breeds greed.

Certainly one of the best songs + video. How many grind bands have such a condensed groove? Marton's riffs might have been merely the result of a compulsive way of playing, but it feels like he kept bringing light to "the apotheosis of rhythm" that is the blastbeat... Along with, uh, Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, which is, according to Franz Liszt, also "the apotheosis of rhythm - without blastbeats?!

I agree with you, it was time for them to move on. They went out in a blaze of blasting glory. It's not like they had a lack of material in the first place, and that will forever be enough for me. But that won't stop me from dreaming of what could've been.

No, that video is made by the band. It's on the Pikadourei DVD as well as a couple live performances in Japan.
